Scottish Blitz Chess Championship 2012 (9)

Author Jacob Aagaard wins Scottish Championship

The Danish GM Jacob Aagaard added the Scottish title to the British title he won in 2007 as he finished in a five way tie for first on 7/9 at the Scottish Open recently concluded at the Trades Hall in Glasgow. This was the fifth year the tournament has been run as an international open and there were ten GMs and thirteen IMs in a 139 player field.

Although Aagaard no longer represents Scotland and plays under the Danish flag, he was eligible for the title by virtue of residency. Aagaard runsQuality Chess,a publishing company based in Glasgow, whose books consistently live up to the company's name. Aagaard reached seven points and secured the Scottish title in the last round by defeating an English GM, Mark Hebden, with the Scotch Opening.

Winners:

GM Momchil Nikolov (Bulgaria), GM VitalyTeterev (Belarus), GM Jacob Aagaard (Denmark), IM Jonathan Hawkins (England), IM Bragi Thorfinnsson (Iceland) 7/9
