Kramnik joins Nisipeanu in the lead on 3 points after Dortmund Round 4

Fabiano Caruana beat Arkadij Naiditsch in an open Catalan taking a tiny advantage and managing to apply the pressure. 35.Ne1 was perhaps not the strongest (35.Nd2 with a significant edge) but after Naiditsch didn't find 35...e5 his position collapsed.
Georg Meier had his second tough defeat at the hands of the top seeds. Just as with Caruana he was doing well against Vladimir Kramnik but he couldn't find his way through the complications in the run up to first time control, losing a nice advantage and being a bit worse, Meier blundered with 50.Ke2 and the game was soon over.
Ian Nepomniachtchi was in danger of being a bit worse against Arkadij Naiditsch but in the end got a 3 vs 2 Rook and Pawn ending which was theoretically and then practically drawn.
Hou Yifan had a nice edge against Wesley So but couldn't make anything of it and the game was drawn.
Round 4 Standings: Nisipeanu, Kramnik (1 loss followed by 3 straight wins) 3pts, Caruana 2.5pts, Naiditsch 2pts, So, Nepomniachtchi, Hou Yifan 1.5pts, Meier 1pt.
In a schedule that might best be described as leasurely (and why not? the players can put more energy into the games) there is a second and final rest day in the 7 round event on Thursday.
