Fabiano Caruana won a pawn early on against Hou Yifan and although there were some technical problems he overcame them to win in 39 moves.
Vladimir Kramnik blundered on the last move before second time on move 60 to allow Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu to escape with a draw.
Ian Nepomniachtchi won an exchange Queen's Gambit against Arkadij Naiditsch.
Georg Meier had the better side of a draw against Wesley So.
