FIDE Women's World Chess Championship 2025 (7)
Ju Wenjun wins third game in a row to lead 5-2
Mark Crowther - Wednesday 31st December 1969
After a three day break the Women's World Chess Championship match resumed after moving from Shanghai to Chongqing. Ju Wenjun picked up where she left off by winning her third game in a row and taking a near decisive 5-2 lead in the 12 game match. For much of game 7 Tan Zhongyi stood a tiny bit better but as she went below 5 minutes things became tricky, 33...g5 wasn't necessarily bad but she had clearer ways to hold, 35...Bb7? was the losing move, it did nothing, she would rather have not had her c-pawn, and it allowed Ju to force the exchange of Tan's good bishop. Tan had a couple of chances to complicate things with a4 but by first time control her position was already completely hopeless and she resigned on move 47.
