Fabiano Caruana wins the St Louis Rapid but loses to Gukesh in the final round

Fabiano Caruana almost set a record 8/9 score in the Saint Louis Rapid section of this combined rapid and blitz tournament. Caruana needed to beat World Champion Gukesh in the final round to set the new mark.
The Gukesh - Caruana final round game was a wild struggle where Caruana outplayed the World Champion and obtained a winning position, but with time running short for Caruana, and the position remaining complicated, the position turned around. Gukesh, although far from accurate himself, brought home the full point in a long endgame. The game is annotated below.
Caruana still won the Rapid section with 7/9 half a point clear of Levon Aronian who he beat in Round 6. Then comes MVL followed by Gukesh.
Today the blitz section starts, Gukesh is rated 93 in the world at blitz and that doesn't seem an unfair ranking at all. Playing a lot of online blitz is the path to getting better and Gukesh, maybe rightly, just doesn't do it.
