Scottish Blitz Chess Championship 2012 (Final Result)
Scottish Blitz Chess Championship 2012
IM Malcolm Pein - Thursday 28th June 2012
The first Scottish Blitz Chess Championship was staged on June 16 at the Quicentenary Building, Edinburgh. The championship was supported by Skyscanner.net and a some local sponsors. A healthy prize fund attracted a strong and international field including the Germans number one Arkady Naiditsch.
The title went to GM Sabino Brunello, of Italy, who scored an unbeaten 10/11, ahead of England's GM Danny Gormally on 9/11. Naiditsch was third on 8.5/11 and the Scottish Blitz Trophy went to Neil Berry of Edinburgh, on 8/11 as the best performing home player. Unfortunately a technical hitch meant that only game was recorded, a chaotic affair in which Ireland's IM Sam Collins is completely winning before he gets carried away and the tournament winner strikes.
