e2e4 Gatwick Airport Tournament (4)
Nice swindle from e2e4 Premier at Gatwick
IM Malcolm Pein - Monday 31st October 2011
Malcolm Pein attended the e2e4 Premier at Gatwick. Malcolm Pein looks at the game between Pete Sowray and Simon Williams which concluded in a time scramble.
A riotous game from the e2e4 Premier at Gatwick where GMs Mark Hebden and Bogdan Lalic were making the early running. The satirical chess magazine Kingpin used to run a column entitled 'Great Swindles of our Time' and I confess I had one or two games under consideration over the years. Were that column still running, this would have to be a contender. It should be borne in mind that there was a time scramble under way and the players were relying on their 30 second increment per move.
