The contract for the FIDE World Championship between the reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger Boris Gelfand was signed in Moscow on Saturday in the central office of the news agency "Interfax". The dates for the 12 game match are 10th-31st May 2012. The agreement was signed by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Arkady Dvorkovich, as well as Anand and Gelfand. When the bid was won Ilyumzhinov insisted upon Skolkovo a small Moscow Science Park as the venue which was widely derided as so insignificant that it would be impossible to hold the match there. The major sponsor Andrey Filatov and the Russian Chess Federation wanted a major museum such as the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The venue will in fact be the Tretyakov State Gallery one of the finest museums in the world.
