The FTX Crypto Cup took place in Miami Mon 15th Aug to Sun 21st Aug 2022. Players: Aronian, Carlsen, Duda, Firouzja, Giri, Le Quang Liem, Niemann and Praggnanandhaa. Magnus Carlsen took first place by a point from R Praggnanandhaa and Alireza Firouzja. Carlsen faced Praggnanandhaa in the final round and needed to draw the first four rounds 2-2, this he secured by winning game three, he lost game four and both tie-break games however which allowed Praggnanandhaa to finish second.
