The FIDE World Cup took place in Krasnaya Polyana 12th July to 8th August. The venue which is close to Sochi and which hosted events in the 2014 Winter Olympics is high in the mountains. Jan-Krzysztof Duda beat Magnus Carlsen in the Semi-finals and Sergey Karjakin in the final to take the title and win a Candidates place. Carlsen beat Fedoseev in the 3rd - 4th tie-break. The finalists will both play in the Candidates tournament. Alexandra Kosteniuk beat Aleksandra Goryachkina in the final to win the women's event.
