Levon Aronian took clear first place with 4 wins 1 draw and a loss to Grischuk in the first round. Alexander Grischuk took second place due to more wins than Sergey Karjakin (they employed three points for a win).

1.Aronian 13pts 2. Grischuk 8pts, Karjakin 7pts, 4 Shirov 3pts.

The 2nd edition of the Grand Slam Masters Final took place in Bilbao, September 5-12th 2009. The winners of the Nanching Pearl Spring, Corus-Wijk aan Zee, Ciudad de Linares and Mtel Masters-Sofia tournaments were due play in the final. However at the last minute Veselin Topalov withdrew and was replaced with Levon Aronian.
