The first day of the Airthings Masters saw a lot of caution and only seven decisive games out of 24. This is the second event of the "Champions Chess Tour" online series and is the first of three majors - events that have a qualification place for the tour final for the winner. The first three days sees all 12 players compete in a round robin, the top 8 will qualify for a later KO phase.

At the finish of the first day Hikaru Nakamura, Levon Aronian, Daniil Dubov, Teimour Radjabov and Wesley So were all tied on 2.5/4, all with one win and three draws. World Champion Magnus Carlsen missed a one move tactic (43.f4+ winning a rook immediately with a discovered attack) to beat Levon Aronian in the first round but otherwise had few chances and he drew all his games.

Play starts at 2pm GMT each day.

Round 4 Standings: 1st= Nakamura, Aronian, Dubov, Radjabov, Wesley So 2.5pts/4, 6th= Grischuk, Nepomniachtchi, Carlsen, Harikrishna 2pts, 10th Vachier-Lagrave Maxime 1.5pts 11th= Anton Guijarro, Giri 1pts
