The 7th Vugar Gashimov Memorial was a rapid mini-match tournament combined with a double round robin blitz that took place Fri 17th Dec to Fri 24th Dec 2021. Players: Richard Rapport, Fabiano Caruana, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mamedov, Viswanathan Anand, David Navara, Vugar Asadli and Sergey Karjakin. Fabiano Caruana came from behind to catch Richard Rapport and then win a final Armageddon title. Rapport and Karjakin won the rapid section with 16 points out of a possible 21. Caruana won the blitz with 10/14 a point and a half clear of Mamedyarov and two points clear of Rapport, Karjakin rather surprisingly came last in the blitz.
