The Russian Championship Superfinals took place in Cheboksary 11th to 22nd September 2022. The event is much weaker than usual due to the war, it remains to be seen whether some of the stronger players will ever be back. Players: Vladislav Artemiev, Maksim Chigaev, Sanan Sjugirov, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Aleksandr Rakhmanov, Daniil Dubov, Evgeniy Najer, Maxim Matlakov, Ilia Iljiushenok, Volodar Murzin, Andrey Esipenko and Arseniy Nesterov. The players in the women's event: Marina Guseva, Leya Garifullina, Alina Bivol, Olga Girya, Daria Charochkina, Alisa Galliamova, Evgenija Ovod, Ekaterina Goltseva, Yana Zhapova, Valentina Gunina, Mariya Yakimova and Natalija Pogonina. Daniil Dubov won an Armageddon tie-break by drawing with black against Sanan Sjugirov to win the Men's title - after two rapid tie-break games that were drawn. The live coverage missed the end of games two and the entire Armageddon game. Valentina Gunina won the women's title with 8/11.
