Fabiano Caruana will be regretting a big missed chance to beat local player Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu after apparently having done all the hard work. Caruana's 34. Kxe4? allowed perpetual check when 34. Kd4 would have allowed him a decisive advantage by escaping checks and penetrating decisively with his king. Vassily Ivanchuk had the better of a lengthy rook ending against Veselin Topalov but a draw was probably the right result. Round 3 Friday 9th Nov 1:30pm GMT. Ivanchuk-Caruana and Nisipeanu-Topalov.
