The 53rd Reggio Emilia tournament starts today. Top seed is Vassily Ivanchuk, but it surely the return of Alexander Morozevich that will provoke the most interest. He has only played 16 games in the last year including a very poor performance in Pamplona in July.

The Opening Ceremony for the 53rd Reggio Emilia tournament started on 28th December at 11am local time. Nigel Short secured the white pieces for his first and second game by drawing number one.

Travel has been tricky. David Navara arrived late last night and Alexander Morozevich hasn't yet arrived. Fortunately they were drawn together in round 1 and their game is to be postponed until 4pm local time on the rest day on January 1st.
