The 4th ACP World Rapid Cup took place 27th-29th May 2010. The event was a knockout rapid tournament with 16 players.
In the final after drawing all four 4 rapid games and two blitz games the match came down to a single Armageddon blitz game. Sergey Karjakin won this game against Dmitry Jakovenko to take the title.
All but one of the favourites won in round 1 Grischuk, Eljanov, Shirov, Karjakin , Gashimov, Jakovenko and Movsesian all progressed. Vassily Ivanchuk (who looked pretty miserable before the start) lost to Mikhail Gurevich.
In the quarter finals Grischuk went through against Movsesian. Sergey Karjakin somehow went through against Shirov after an Armageddon blitz game after falling behind twice with losses in the first rapid and blitz games.Jakovenko beat Eljanov and then Mikhail Gurevich again surprised by eliminating Gashimov.
In the semi-finals Sergey Karjakin again showed how hard he is to put away. He had to win with black in the rapid to survive. He then won a first chaotic blitz game and held on in the second. Mikhail Gurevich's run ended with a loss to Dmitry Jakovenko.
Time control is 20 minutes per game with an increment of 5 seconds per move. If the initial match is drawn 1-1 there are two blitz games with a time control of 3 minutes with an increment of 2 seconds per move starting from move 1. If this tie-break ends in a draw (1-1) a final decisive Armageddon blitz game with White starting with 5 minutes and Black wth draw odds only 4 minutes.
