Ivanchuk leads the Capablanca Memorial after two rounds

Ivanchuk - Dominguez Round 2. Miguel Ernesto Gomez and Maria del Carmen Ramon.

Defending champion and favourite Vassily Ivanchuk moved into the sole lead after two rounds of the Capablanca Memorial Elite Group. He beat Leinier Dominguez Perez. Ivanchuk is well known for his ability to play all sorts of position but tends to score most heavily in technical chess positions. Here put the pressure on Dominguez on the run up to first time control and only tactics might have kept the Cuban in it. As it was Ivanchuk had a winning position at move 40 which he easily converted. Yuniesky Quesada Perez had the better of a complicated Nimzo-Indian with black against Viktor Laznicka but after failing to find 27...Ng4! his position became harder to play and he was lost by move 40. Vladimir Potkin against Ian Nepomniachtchi was a damp squib as they played a variation which led to a draw by repetition. Jon-Ludwig Hammer observered on twitter "Inviting a coach/pupil-duo might not be brilliant for a DRR." Game from the Premier Group now available. Round 3 Sunday 8pm BST. Dominguez - Potkin, Nepomniachtchi - Laznicka, Quesada - Ivanchuk.

Dominguez needs to play some tactics here. He just ends up with a very difficult if not lost position after this.
