43rd World Chess Olympiad

The 43rd World Chess Olympiad took place in Batumi 24th September to 5th October 2018. China won on tie-break from the USA and Russia, all three teams won 8 drew 2 and lost 1 match. Due to the nature of the deciding SB tie-break everything was in doubt to the very end as results of the opponents of the leaders became important. China also won the Women's Olympiad after drawing a vital final round match against Russia who just finished outside of the medals. Ukraine beat the USA 3-1 but had a worse tie-break than China. Hosts Georgia, traditionally the power house of Soviet women's chess took bronze.
