Vladimir Kramnik had the better of a draw with black against Ruslan Ponomariov and he moved one round closer to his 10th title out of the 39 editions of the Dortmund Chess Meeting event when his closest rival Le Quang Liem couldn't get any advantage against Georg Meier. Struggling Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri drew their contest. Round 7 2pm Thursday: Nakamura-Le, Giri-Ponomariov and Kramnik-Meier.

Vladimir Kramnik's good form was again shown against Ruslan Ponomariov as black as he got a tiny edge against from the opening but it did not amount to so very much and the game was drawn.

Neither Hikaru Nakamura nor Anish Giri are at their best in this event. They drew an interesting struggle where Nakamura found a small combination to win an h-pawn but it was never enough. 29....Rd6 leaving an unprotected rook allowed 30.Be3 Qf5 31.Bxh6! when hxg6 32.Qg3+ would have picked up the rook but after 31...Rdc6 white's pieces were discoordinated.

Georg Meier's openings have been pretty good in this event and he didn't have any problems out of the opening against Le Quang Liem and the game was drawn in 38 moves without much drama.

Note that the organisers are delaying the broadcast of moves by 15 minutes each round to help against possible computer cheating.
