Anish Giri had already secured first place going into the final round and he drew with Jan Smeets in the final round for a huge 6/7 score. Ivan Sokolov started with a loss to Giri and some early draws before winning his last three games to take second place alongside Erwin L'Ami a point behind the winner. Tea Lanchava had secured first place in the women's event too and could afford to lose to Peng Zhaoqin and still be clear first place. The ACP Golden Classic has seen the completion of the adjourned games. Ivanchuk leads on 4/5 half a point clear of Gata Kamsky. Jobava Baadur is on 0.5/5, luckily for him the event is not going to be rated. New photos by Frits Agterdenbos of the final round including the story of the near default of Ivan Sokolov.

Anish Giri 1-0 Robin van Kampen

Here is the end of Anish Giri's win in Round 6 that secured the title. Van Kampen was put under pressure in a sideline of the Catalan and here he blunders.

Ivan Sokolov and Sipke Ernst were late

Frits Agterdenbos reports: "The final round started today 21 July at 11.00 hours. But nobody at the board Ivan Sokolov - Sipke Ernst. Sipke Ernst was the first to arrive at 11.12 hours. Ivan Sokolov arrived much later but just in time: he made his first move at 11.54 hours. Six minutes later he would have lost the game. It was told he had train problems and couldn't find a taxi. A friend picked him up with his car and delivered him just in time at the playing venue. Ivan Sokolov won the game."
