The 28th European Club Cup 2012 took place in Eilat, Israel 10th (Opening Ceremony) to 17th October 2012. Leading players: Teimour Radjabov, Hikaru Nakamura, Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexander Morozevich, Alexander Grischuk, Veselin Topalov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Wang Hao, Peter Svidler, Vugar Gashimov, Boris Gelfand etc. Indeed almost everyone who isn't in Bilbao. Favourites SOCAR of Azerbaijan (Radjabov, Mamedyarov, Topalov, Grischuk, Kamsky, Sutovsky) took the title after they thumped Tomsk-400 (Ponomariov, Areshchenk) 5-1. Leaders going into the final round and 4th seeds St Petersburg (Svidler, Dominguez) who beat Ashdod 4-2 in the final round to claim 2nd place the top two teams won 6 matches and lost 1 (SOCAR recovered from a first round loss and defeated St Petersburg in Round 6). 2nd seeds SHSM (Gelfand, Leko, Giri etc) took 3rd place.
