The 23rd European Team Chess Championship took place in Catez, Slovenia 12th to 21st November 2021. Open and women's competitions. Giri, Grischuk, Firouzja, MVL, Mamedyarov, Rajdabov, Duda, Adams, Dubov, Esipenko were among the leading players, Russia followed by Azerbaijan were the top seeds. The event was won by Ukraine on tie-break from France with Poland finishing second and top seeds Russia finishing 6th. The event will surely be remembered more for Alireza Firouzja's 8/9 score undefeated which has taken him over 2800 and to number 2 in the World. The women's event was dominated by Russia who won all their matches, Georgia were second and Azerbaijan third.
