The 20th and final Amber tournament takes place in Monaco March 11th-25th 2011. This event includes the top eight players in the World including World Champion Viswanathan Anand, Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian. This final tournament is a celebration of Joop van Oosterom's contribution to chess which started in 1992. Round 1 Saturday 12th March 2011. This page will contain games, results and reports from the event.
Aronian wins final Amber Tournament (11)
Levon Aronian took clear first in the final Amber tournament with 15.5/22 a point clear of Magnus Carlsen. A major part of his win was an undefeated 8.5/11 in the blindfold section. A major advance on the 5 points he scored last year. Magnus Carlsen scored 5/11 in the blindfold but absolutely dominated the rapid with 9.5/11 (a record score). World Champion Viswanathan Anand finished in third on 13 points, Grischuk and Ivanchuk tied for 4th.

Alexander Grischuk shows his great round 1 win against Vladimir Kramnik which was played blindfold. For me the game of the round. He also talks about and demonstrates his escape against Gelfand in the blindfold game of round 2 which he went on to win. Produced for the Association Max Euwe by Macauley Peterson. I've only seen interviews in English a few times with Grischuk but I think he's great value. Ten minutes in length.
