The 1st China Chess King tournament was a two day rapid knockout with 12 players in Chengdu, China 6th to 7th January 2024. World Champion Ding Liren returned to the board after a lengthy layoff just prior to traveling to Wijk aan Zee for the Tata Steel Masters. 12 players compete, the top 4 seeds sat out the first round. Semifinals: Yu Yangyi beat Wei Yi 1.5-0.5 and Wang Hao beat Ding Liren 1.5-0.5. Yu Yangyi beat Wang Hao 1.5-0.5 in the final and Wei Yi won two tie-break games to beat Ding Liren and take 3rd place.
