The 12th Karpov International took place in Poikovsky 4th-13th October 2011. Etienne Bacrot caught Sergey Karjakin with a win in the final round, both finished on 5.5/9. Bacrot took first on tie-break. Fabiano Caruana finished half a point further back. Probably the event was a little too strong for its own good. Karjakin and Caruana are still juniors but also experienced GMs, I think a couple more ambitious up and coming players might have made the event more interesting, as it was only 11/45 games were decisive.
