Magnus Carlsen's performance in the Kings Tournament in Medias took him back to World Number One above World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand who didn't play in this period. Levon Aronian dropped back after his tied match with Alexander Grischuk in the Classical games section of their Candidates Match. Sergey Karjakin moved to 4 in the World after his Kings tournament performance. Boris Gelfand moves up to 12 in the World above Grischuk after their performances in the Candidates. The remaining members of the top 10 are very close, the list was corrected to take into account Nakamura's win against Ponomariov in the classical section of that match this change alone take Nakamura to 6 in the World and Ponomariov is only at 10 instead of 7 in spite of his big win in the Ukrainian Championship. 42 players are above 2700 which is the new 2600 from 15-20 years ago, the new mark for an elite player. 2649 is the rating that gets you into the top 100. Alexander Moiseenko gained 36 points in the period to move to 2715, as did Le Quang Liem gaining 28. Radoslaw Wojtaszek lost 38 points although he shoud now pick up points with his crushing win in the Gyorgy Marx Memorial. Below is the new corrected version of the FIDE list for July.
