The 2009 US Chess Championship took place in Saint Louis, United States, May 7th-17th 2009. 24 players competed. Hikaru Nakamura won the US Championship beating Josh Friedel in the final round. Robert Hess couldn't overcome a drawish bishops of opposite colour ending against Akobian and had to settle for a draw. Alexander Onischuk tied with Hess on 6.5/9. Gata Kamsky was a further half point back.

Saint Louis, May 17 -- Hikaru Nakamura, 21, of White Plains, N.Y., won the the 2009 U.S. Chess Championship after winning in the ninth and final round at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.
