The second round of the London Chess Classic saw all the games drawn with the most complicated between Hikaru Nakamura and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave finshing last. Anish Giri leads alone on 1.5/2.

Nakamura didn't get the opening quite right and being tempi down in a Benoni structure proved difficult for him. Vachier-Lagrave started to go wrong on the run up to first time control after which he put the breaks on to hold the draw.

Magnus Carlsen obtained a passed d-pawn in a Rook Queen and Pawns endgame vs Fabiano but he didn't have enough to make progress. Afterwards Carlsen thought that if there was anything he should have played 33.Qd2 but even then black should hold.

Earlier Michael Adams comfortably held with black for the second day in a row vs Anish Giri. Viswanathan Anand didn't have too many problems drawing vs Aronian and Grischuk had the better of things with black against Topalov but traded to a draw too.

Round 2 Standings: 1st Giri 1.5pts 2nd= Grischuk, Vachier-Lagrave, Caruana, Anand, Adams, Aronian, Carlsen, Nakamura, Hikaru 1pt 10th Topalov 0.5pts
