19th Sigeman & Co 2011 (4)

Grandelius beats So in Sigeman Round 4

Wesley So was perhaps overconfident against tail-ender Nils Grandelius and was punished for slapdash play by being mated in 31 moves. Anish Giri against Jonny Hector was a very complicated Slav Defence where Giri grabbed a pawn but was not much or at all better and this assessment remained into a drawn rook ending. Alexei Shirov was held by Hans Tikkanen in a Slav which was interesting but also held by black reasonably easily.
