1) Introduction

My thanks to Roland Wimmer, Olexandr Prohorov, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Rafael Cortes Jurado, Luis Scalise, Steve Stahl, and everyone else who helped with this issue.

A very busy week at the top. The Bilbao Final Masters have got under way in Sao Paulo as I write. Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian, Viswanathan Anand, Fabiano Caruana, Sergey Karjakin and Francisco Vallejo Pons star. London is hosting the first FIDE Grand Prix and although there has been a tight start with only a few decisive games things seem to be hotting up. World Championship Challenger Boris Gelfand has taken an early lead. The Poikovsky tournament starts later in the week, there is also the Ankara Women's Grand Prix. Plenty to look at. This will be the final issue of TWIC via ChessBase download. The magazine will still be available in ChessBase format at: http://www.theweekinchess.com at least until I decide how best to finance its continuation.

The 5th Final Masters have started in Sao Paulo, there will be 5 rounds there before a transfer to Bilbao. Levon Aronian took only two and a half hours to beat Sergey Karjakin.

The Black Sea Countries final tournament took place in Burgas, Bulgaria 12th-19th September 2012. Ivan Cheparinov took clear first place with 7/10 a point clear of Vladimir Malakhov and Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu. Baadur Jobava seems to be in real crisis at the moment and only scored 3.5/10.

7) zt 3.5 China Men 2012

The Chinese Zonal tournament took place in Beijing 15th to 20th September 2012. The coverage was a bit of a mess with no game archive so when I missed the 1st and 9th rounds live it wasn't possible to find them anywhere else. They also didn't do a final standings although with the top games being drawn probably Round 10 leader Lou Yiping took first on tie-break.
