My thanks to Eugenio Davolio, Evgeny Tkachev, Nebojsa Baralic, George Mirijanian, Leslie Leow, Spiros Ilandzis, Adolivio Capece, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Laszlo Nagy, Lars-Henrik Bech Hansen, Jeff Hall, Miklos Orso, Zenón Franco Ocampos, Shay Bushinsky, Scott Freeman, Gert Ligterink, Michael Atkins and everyone else who helped with the issue.
Vladimir Kramnik has just one game to try and level his match against Deep Fritz. His terrible blunder into mate in one in game two looks certain to cost him the match. Elsewhere Deep Junior beat Teimour Radjabov with black in a one off game in Florence. Vassily Ivanchuk duly completed a win in the Capablanca Memorial in Cuba edging out Evgeny Bareev who performed excellently to recover from a bad start. The Russian Championship super final is not as strong as some of the previous editions but it has a respectable field headed by world number four Peter Svidler.
Hope you enjoy this issue.

The Final of the US Chess League took place on 29th November 2006 on ICC. The result was that the San Francisco Mechanics beat New York Knights in the final on the 29th of November after a tie-break.
Report on the official site: In what was unquestionably the most exciting match in USCL history, the San Francisco Mechanics won the league title in the tiebreak after the score was tied at two in regulation. In order to win the tiebreak, you must eliminate all the players on the other team. New York was down to it's last player, 2005 USCL MVP, GM Pascal Charbonneau. Meanwhile San Francisco had two shots at him, with both IM David Pruess and IM Josh Friedel remaining. IM Pruess had a deadly mating attack against Charbonneau and it seemed as if San Francisco would wrap up the match without having to resort to their top board. Unfortunately for Pruess, the pressure proved too great and Charbonneau miraculously saved the game and ended up winning. It now all came down to IM Friedel and GM Charbonneau for the Championship. Charbonneau is known to be a fantastic blitz player, but on this evening, Friedel got the better of him right from jump street. Earlier in this match, winning positions seemed unimportant as players were saving lost games and winning drawn ones. However this time around Friedel was not to be denied. He eventually won a whole rook and despite being down to just twenty seconds, the 5 second increment was enough for him.

The Bundesliga chess season in Germany is under way. The second double round took place 18th-19th November 2006. The Tal Memorial Blitz caused a lot of strong players to miss the event. Alexei Shirov decided to miss the blitz and his 2/2 would have been much appreciated by his team OSC Baden Baden. Nevertheless they were missing Anand and they lost a key match to rivals SG Köln Porz. The first of the extra round 7 games were played on Friday so some teams have played 5 games and others 4 but all teams have dropped points now.
Another try at correcting the game I tried to last week.
