My thanks to John Saunders, Bognar Csaba, Gary Suffield, Andrea Malfagia, Russell Miller, Miklos Orso, Fred Lucas, Michael Grøne Andersson, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Aram Hajian, Doru Ionescu, Adolivio Capece, Jacques Robrecht, Smbat Lputian, Selim Gurcan, Greg Shahade, Massimiliano Orsi, Stewart Reuben, Urcan Olimpiu, Bill Townsend, Yusof Yasnain, Massimo Megale, Sergei Movsesian and everyone else who helped with the issue.
The FIDE World Championship has seen its first four rounds. So far it has been tremendous. This has been serious chess, played at serious time limits for serious stakes. FIDE should have done this years ago and should definitely do it again, if not as a World Title Tournament then certainly as a final Candidates event. Vesslin Topalov has started with 3.5/4 and he nearly beat Viswanathan Anand too. Anand was tied with Topalov before round 4 when he lost to current FIDE Champion Kasimdzhanov. Anand has had black in three of his first four games so he still has chances to make up the ground. In second right now is Peter Svidler and a test of his aspirations will be the game he starts as I write this with Topalov. I for one can't wait.
Hope you enjoy this issue.

Bill Townsend reports: Former World Championship challenger GM Gata Kamsky was the winner of the 127th New York State Championship which was held Sept. 2 to 5. Kamsky finished with 51/2 out of 6, besting the rest of the field by a full point. Kamsky's sole draw was against GM Ildar Ibragimov in round 5. Ibragimov, with 41/2-11/2 was the event's only other undefeated player, but he gave up draws earlier to FM Ilya Figler and GM Nick De Firmian. Also tying for second with 41/2-11/2 were FM Igor Nikolayev and FM Daniel Shapiro. Shapiro took the prize for top player rated under 2300.
Seven players tied for fifth with 4-2: GM Nick De Firmian, IM Justin Sarkar, FM Ilya Figler, FM Boris Reichstein, Elizabeth Vicary, Michael Ellenbogen and Alec Getz. This last named player is only 11 years old, and had an amazing tournament. Rated only 2016 at the start of the event, young Getz defeated 3 masters and was among the leaders until stopped by Kamsky in the final round.
The event was held at Kutsher's Country Club, outside of Monticello, NY, near the New York-Pennsylvania border. Turnout was practically identical to last year's event which was something of a miracle considering the spike in gas prices in the U.S. this summer, and the fact there was a fire at the previously announced venue less than ten days before the tournament's start that forced organizers to relocate at the last minute.
As of this writing the tournament crosstables are not yet posted, but they should soon be available at the Continental Chess website: http://www.chesstour.com/
The 10th Cesenatico International Chess Tournament took place 3rd-11th September 2005. Miroljub Lazic won with 7.5/9. No games available.

Gaston Needleman gave a different version of his win than the one I published last week at: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2647. I think we can presume his is correct. Thanks to Yusof Yasnain for pointing this out.
The European Club Cup took place September 18th-24th 2005. I gave all the games available to me last week. Andrea Malfagia has since been working hard on the bulletin and made a large number of additions and improvements. I will put a final file in TWIC next week as there are still a few problem games and after that you should delete ones given in previous TWIC issues. I will put the new file on the TWIC front page some time this week and perhaps some of the missing and incomplete games will turn up before I have a final try at a master version.

Soren Sogaard announces that his site Seagaard ChessReviews will no longer be updated.
His letter: Dear reader! This is the last "newsletter" you receive from Seagaard ChessReviews. I have run the site for 5½ years, but now I no longer have the time to keep running the site. I have looked for sponsors for some time now, but I didn't succeed. Without these sponsors it is not easy to run the site. It was a hard decision, but the site, products and reviews will still be there for you - I just stop reviewing the products that I receive. If I receive products in the future, I will still store them in the database. However, I will writ eto the publishers that the site is closing so don't count on a lot of new products ;-) Thanks to all the people who supported me during the years. I am happy that more than 320 people now subscribes to the newsletter and that we have + 70.000 hits every week. All the best Soren Sogaard - Seagaard ChessReviews

The tournament is usually Canada's largest open event, although this year its 195 players ranked it just behind the Canadian Open for attendance. Hopefully I can round up all the games at some point.
