My thanks to David Cohen, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Thierry Foissez, Gary Kenworthy, Jon Haskel, Jean Christophe Pirini, Jovan Petronic, Hugo Boss, Pierre Bourget, Albert Vasse, Roberto Alvarez, Jack Peters, Luis Blasco de la Cruz, Joan Vivancos Reguero and everyone else who helped with the issue.
The main event is the start of the 15th European Team Championship in Gothenburg. The event has four top 10 players and many, many in the top 100. The early rounds saw favourites Russia held by Azerbaijan but they're by far the strongest team so should still take first place fairly comfortably. Andrei Volokitin and Boris Gelfand finished on 6/10 in Biel a point clear of the field.
Hope you enjoy this issue.

The Mercosur Cup - 100 years of Vicente Lopez County took place in Olivios July 14th-25th, 2005. The computer program Shredder 9 won both the Mercosur Cup and ITT events with huge scores, it seemed to have some problems in the early rounds drawing its only game in the ITT event in the first round against the player who eventually finished clear last and dropping its only points in the main event in rounds 2-3. News Roberto Alvarez.

The 17th annual Southern California Championship was held on two weekends in July in Century City, part of Los Angeles. Three players, all former champions, tied for first place and will count as co-champions for 2005. However, Andranik Matikozyan won the first place cup donated by Halo Industries, an aerospace manufacturing company located in Huntington Beach, California.
The tournament may have been the strongest round robin yet for the Southern California Chess Federation. Part of the attraction was the increased prize fund, thanks to donations from local chess fans. Next year we hope to attract our two local grandmasters, Varuzhan Akobian and Boris Kreiman! News: Jack Peters.

IM Jean Hébert was the joint winner of the 58th Quebec Open Championship with 6.5/9, with Antoine Berube, Simon Gravel, and FM Vahagn Voskanyan. The tournament is usually Canada's largest open event, although this year its 195 players ranked it just behind the Canadian Open for attendance. Hopefully I can round up all the games next week. Round 9 even after conversion to English is currently unusable.
