My thanks to Hans Groffen, Manfred Brod, Vladimir Dvorkovich, John Donaldson, Artiom Tsepotan, Axel Fritz, Hartmut Metz, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Miklós Orsó, Eric van Reem, Damien André, Vladica Andrejic, Jakub Fuksík, Jovan Petronic, Maung Maung Lwin, Richard Bérubé, Peter Karrer, Kaspars Migla, Peter Stockhausen, Koos Stolk, John Fernandez, David Cohen, Ching Kim Lye, Korpics Zsolt, Albert Blees and everyone else who helped with the issue.
Viswanathan Anand continues his domination of the Chess Classic Event in Mainz. Victories over Kramnik, Ponomariov and Polgar were followed by another scalp, Alexei Shirov. In the final game Shirov probably missed a win after some very creative play when he turned down perpetual at one stage even though he was short of time. This is Anand´s 7th Chess Classic title and his fifth in a row. Anand thought the match very close though "Two Fingerfehler decided the match, which was in fact very tight".
Hope you enjoy this issue.

Chess Classic Mainz took in the Rheingoldhalle in Mainz 4th-8th August 2004. The main match this year was an eight game rapid clash between Vishy Anand and Alexei Shirov. Anand won the match 5-3. The 11th Ordix Open took place August 7th-8th. Alexander Grischuk won with 9,5 points out of 11 games and repeated last year´s victory. He remains unbeaten in two Ordix Open tournaments: 16 wins, 6 draws. Now he is a hot candidate to play against Vishy Anand next year in a match in Mainz.
Peter Svidler defended his WNCA Chess 960 world title in an eight game Gerling match against Levon Aronian, winner of the Chess960 Open last year. In an exciting match with only one draw Svidler took the match by winning the final game. The 3rd FiNet-Chess960 Open (Alexander Morozevich, Ruslan Ponomariov and Alexander Grischuk competde) took place 5th-6th August 2004. Zoltan Almasi took clear first undefeated on 9.5/11 he also had the best combined total in the Ordix and Chess960 opens. The Chess960 Games don't work in PGN so I don't give them. News Eric van Reem.

The LSV-Turm Lippstadt Chess Club hosted the 12th Lippstadt Cat. X. GM Tournament 23rd July - 1st August 2004. David Baramidze would appear to have won the event with 6.5/9 but I gather there was a blitz and rapid element that I don't quite understand that meant Andreas Schenk took first. Games from the final round are now available.
