The Russian Chess Championships dominated events again this week. Peter Svidler only just edged out Alexander Morozevich on Bucholz tie-break probably due to his round 6 victory. Both players finished on 7/9 and big performances that should see them both gain in the international rating list.
Kasparov hasn't wasted any time filling the gaps in his calendar due to the cancellation of his match against Ponomariov. He will be in Greece playing in the European Club Cup and playing a rapid/blitz match against Azmaiparashvili. He'll also be visiting the London Chess Center in October.
Hope you enjoy this issue.

The Russian Championships for men took place 3rd-12th September 2003 in Krasnoyarsk. Swiss system, 9 Rounds. 79 players competed in what turned out to be a very competitive and high quality tournament. The fight for first was between Peter Svidler and Alexander Morozevich. Svidler beat Morozevich in round 6 but the players ended up tied on 7/9. Svidler had the better Bucholz tie-break and thus took the title. Correction to the result Bachin - Sveshnikov (3) in the games section.
