Kasparov dominates news this week. The good news for Kasparov is that finally a date has been agreed for his match against Deep Junior. It will take place in New York under the auspices of FIDE. The event is sure to get a lot of publicity. The bad news was Kasparov's loss to Karpov this week in a two day exhibition match in New York. Kasparov lost two games against his oldest rival the first losses since 1990 at any form of chess. This also is the second consecutive poor performance at rapid chess following a terrible performance in the Russia vs. The World Match. In the broader scheme of things this wasn't an important event but there was no hiding Kasparov's disappointment in the aftermath.
Seasonal greetings to everyone.
Hope you enjoy this issue.

The four game match between Garry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov took place in New York, NY, USA, December 19th-20th 2002 in the ABC Studios in Times Square. 2 Games 25 mins + 10 secs were played each day. Karpov was the surprise winner 2.5-1.5. These are Karpov's first wins against Kasparov in any form of chess since he won game 23 of their World Championships match in December 1990. This is the first match win of any sort Karpov has scored against Kasparov. The event was an exhibition promoting x3d products, the magician David Blaine made the ceremonial first move.
