1) Introduction.
-----------------

My thanks to Michael Niermann, Andrew Kinsman, Otto Borik and Wlodek
Proskurowski for their help in producing this issue.

The week belongs to Alexey Dreev
with a major triumph in winning the top event at Hoogovens. Hopefully
this will mean that he will receive many more invitations to top events
than he does. There are so many ex-CIS nationals playing top class chess
these days that many good players don't get the invitations they need to
meet their potential.

Any new events for the tournament calendar should
be sent to Michael Niermann. It will hopefully be available at my www site
(http://www.brad.ac.uk/~mdcrowth/chess.html) with only updates here from
now on.

Sorry for the delay of this issue. My system was down on Sunday.

2) PCA sign provisional contract for the PCA Championship final.
----------------------------------------------------------------

The PCA match between Kasparov and the winner of the Anand/Kamsky match
(which will be in Las Palmas Mar. 8th - Mar. 25th) will be held in Cologne
Germany. Last week I reported that Dortmund was not to be the venue despite
being widely accepted as being such (interviews given by Kasparov aswell as
numerous press reports said so). The dates for the match will be
the same as announced for that venue September 10th-October 15th 1995.

A provisional contract has been signed with Cologne. The Sponsor will be
Intel. More will be said at the press conference which will be held on
February 9th in Cologne. Kasparov and representatives from INTEL, PCA and
the organisers will be present.

(On a side note I notice that Cologne had extremely bad flooding over
the weekend.)

   David Coleman

My thanks to Andrew Kinsman for these results and some games from the
event. He modestly left out the news that he exceeded the IM norm by
a full point.

(Details of future events are in the Tournament Calendar, Andrew recommends
the event as it takes place in a Mountain-top hotel and in January there
is the additional attraction of skiing.)

6) World Blind Championships
----------------------------

After their excellent showing as a team at the Olympiads the International
Blind Chess Association are holding their championships. (in fact they are
over now but I only have up to round 5.) Does anyone have any more details.

current standings.)

8) Goodricke International Open.

I'm looking for more details about this event. In the games
section, 11! year old Ganguly defeats GM Serper in a good game.
