1) Introduction

My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Aleksander Sokolski Hugh Brodie, everyone else who helped with this issue.

A bit of a quieter week. Magnus Carlsen won the Chess.com Open which was a qualifier for the Esports World Cup. Jan-Krzysztof Duda pressed Carlsen all the way though. Javokhir Sindarov lost two matches and was eliminated. I also tidied up the European Individuals, I didn't do a great job last week.

I'm only going to briefly mention here something I talked about on Twitter. My advertising income for TWIC has collapsed, I got some nice new advertisers but lost my longest standing one which will end in the next couple of weeks. I am no longer making anywhere near enough money to live, I am not yet in an emergency but something will have to change. Through donations, advertising and simply other work I need to earn at least £2000 a month, I need to work out how to get there. I want to continue but I need a reinvention all across the board and I aim to do this via Patreon. I haven't set this up yet but I hope that I can build a community there that will help me take things forward both through donations and perhaps even more importantly ideas. I'm up for the fight. If you want to be a part of a new chapter please consider joining when I'm ready.

The Chess.com Open Playoffs took Thu 23rd to Sun 26th Apr 2026. This offered two places in the Esports World Cup. Players: Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Denis Lazavik, Sam Sevian, Javokhir Sindarov, Arjun Erigaisi, Vincent Keymer, Qualified through Play-Ins, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Pranesh M, Yu Yangyi, Sina Movahed, Daniil Dubov, Nihal Sarin and Shant Sargsyan. The event is a Double Elimination KO. Magnus Carlsen beat Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the Final, lost the Grand Final and then finally won again in the reset final. Both players qualified for the Esports World Cup.

3) 26th European Individual Championship 2026

The 26th European Individual Championship took place 6th (arrival day) to 20th April 2026.

In an astonishing result 17 year-old Roman Dehtiarov who started as 126th seed and has had travel limited by the war won with 9/11.

For some reason I managed to leave out the final two rounds of the event. Also Aleksander Sokolski sent me a new corrected version of the entire file. I did consider just rereleasing the entire event but there weren't quite enough problems with the previous rounds. So there's correct games from rounds 1-9 and games from rounds 10-11 for the first time.
