1) Introduction

My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Gregory Joseph, Alex Jansen, Hugh Brodie, and everyone else who helped with this issue.

The FIDE Grand Swiss was won by Anish Giri with a final round win against Hans Moke Niemann. Giri has been playing a lot of key games against his opponent of late and this was perhaps the most important of all. Matthias Bluebaum finished in second place just ahead of Vincent Keymer and Alireza Firouzja, both of whom I guess have reason to be disappointed. This was a marvellous tournament that demonstrated where the game of chess is in 2025. Wednesday is the 31st anniversary of TWIC. I'm working on a few projects to take the site forward, but these things take time, I'm looking to be finished by Christmas. If you can donate, that would be really helpful right now.

2) FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2025

The FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan Thu 4th Sep to Mon 15th Sep 2025.

Players Open: Praggnanandhaa, Erigaisi, Gukesh, Firouzja, Keymer, Abdusattorov, Giri, Aronian, Nepomniachtchi, Mamedyarov, MVL, Niemann etc.

Players Women: Muzychuk, Tan, Assaubayeva, Lagno etc play in the women's even which has suffered a number of withdrawals.

Two players from each event qualified for the relevant Candidates tournaments.

Anish Giri took clear first place in the open section with 8/11 and Matthias Bluebaum finished second on tie-break from Alireza Firouzja and Vincent Keymer. Rameshbabu Vaishali won the women's event on tie-break from Kateryna Lagno after they finished on 8/11 and secured their Women's Candidates places.
