1) Introduction.
----------------
This issue was about to be completed when the sad news of
Harry Golombek was published. Hence the slight delay.
The issue mostly covers the regular tournaments that take
place over the Christmas period. The games from the Groningen
GM Open Group were posted as one round per posting but as part
of TWIC14.

2) Harry Golombek - March 1st 1911 - Jan 7th 1995

After a number of years of illness Harry Golombek died at the
weekend. Although he played in the late 1920's and throughout
the 1930's he had to wait until the end of the war for his
best results including becoming the first English qualifier
for an Interzonal in 1952. He worked as a code breaker in World
War II at Bletchley Park and towards the end of his life wrote
about this in a book, however the work was still regarded to be
too secret to be published. It is probably as an arbiter in 6
World Title matches and as an author of quality works on Reti
and Capablanca that he will be best remembered.

Solution
To start with, 1.c8Q? Bf5+ or 1.Ke6? K~4 wins for Black immediately.
Route 1.Kd6-c5-b6 is met by ...Bc8 and after 4.Ka7 b5 also wins. Thus,
1.Kc8! forcing b-pawn to move, and destroying the fortress
b5
2.Kd7! a remarkable switchback, with a threat 3.Kc6
b4 and we have the original position with the b-pawn
advanced from b7 to b4, i.e. White worked hard
to lose 2 tempi!
3.Kd6 Bf5
4.Ke5! Reti maneuver, winning a tempo by attacking bB
to reach the b-pawn quadrant.
