My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Gerard Demuydt, Peter Doggers, Grant Oen and everyone else who helped with this issue.
David Howell won the two day online tournament which replaced the regular Hastings tournament. The all-play-all had most of England's best players with Luke McShane finishing second and Michael Adams. There was some over the board chess played this week in Italy and Spain but for the most part it was online where the major action took place with the Sharjah Women's tournament, Pan-American Intercollegiate and French Top 16 all taking place there. Saturday sees the Tata Steel tournament start in Wijk aan Zee. Some players have already arrived but it's going to be a quieter affair with just the 14 players of the Masters group and no-one else playing. This has been a particularly grim week for the Coronavirus crisis, it will be nice to have this long running fixture in the calendar to watch. I'd love to be there - makes me fairly determined to make the trip next time.

The Caplin Hastings Online tournament was a two day replacement for the cancelled open and featured most of the top active English players in a two day rapid. David Howell was a convincing winner with 9/11 a point and a half clear of Luke McShane with Michael Adams a further half point back.

Meri Arabidze won the blitz with 11/13. Iulija Osmak won the rapid final with 7/9 half a point clear of Antoaneta Stefanova. Games from the final event are complete, there are a few hundred missing from the blitz but that still represents a very high percentage.
