1) Introduction

My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Peter Doggers, Robert Baskin, John Hartmann, Grant Oen, Gerard Demuydt, Henri Koskinen and everyone else who helped both with this issue.

The 8th Altibox Norway Chess tournament got under way. This and the Biel Chess tournament have been the only elite events since the Candidates tournament was called off at the half way stage. The Candidates are scheduled to resume on November 1st, I can understand people wanting to get this finished but I just don't see the justification - does anyone see a world championship match happening any time soon? Caruana confirmed that talks are ongoing and that a final decision is days away. The Norway Chess field is a limited one with only six players and hopefully it will pass without incident. Online Magnus Carlsen beat Wesley So in the final of the Banter Blitz - there was a strong Title Tuesday followed by a similar Super Swiss at the weekend. Again plenty of chess to look at.

2) 8th Altibox Norway Chess 2020

The 8th Altibox Norway Chess tournament takes place Mon 5th Oct to Fri 16th Oct 2020 in Stavanger, Norway. The 6 players have been isolated for the last few days in order to play this over the board event. Players Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Alireza Firouzja and Arjan Tari. The event uses an unusual format in that there is three points for a win and if drawn there is a single Armageddon game where the winner gets 1.5 points and the loser 1 point.

The chess24 Banter Series tookplace 1st to 29th September 2020. Magnus Carlsen has reached the final where he will play Wesley So. There were two places available in the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour starting later in the year and a $36,000 prize fund. Magnus Carlsen defeated Wesley So 5.5-3.5 in the final.

The 1st Chartres GM took place 30th Septembe to 4th October 2020. 15 year old IM Daniel Dardha, achieved his 1st Grandmaster norme and finished in a tie for 1st with GM Alberto David, Sergey Fedorchuk and Namig Guliyev. 13-year-old Marc Andria Maurizzi missed GM norme by one point. The event was filmed in the Chartres Live studio and will be broadcast on Europe-Echecs.

I could only find games from the lower boards which sometimes suggests there was live coverage but I could not find it. Dina Belenkaya edged out Anna Styazhkina on tie-break after both scored 6.5/9 in the 88th Women's Championship.
