1) Introduction

My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Gerard Demuydt, Chris Callahan, Robert Baskin, Simon McNamara, Xuhao He and everyone else who helped both with this issue.

Daniil Dubov won the Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge and made the finals of Magnus Carlsen's Grand Prix series. It was a very tight match against Hikaru Nakamura who has also really impressed in this series so far, I hope he makes it to the final too. After a few days off the second Clutch Chess tournament started with Magnus Carlsen starring. The US only event was a low key affair but the format has started to look a lot more interesting already. Wesley So has already made it to the Semifinals and Magnus Carlsen has just beaten Jeffrey Xiong to join him as I write.

2) Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge 2020

The Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge online chess tournament takes place on Chess24 19th May to 6th June 2020. The event is part of the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour and the winner will qualify for the finals in August. There are two phases a 12 player all-play-all followed by a mini-match knockout system for the top 8 finishers. Players: Carlsen, Ding Liren, Nakamura, Grischuk, Aronian, Duda, Dubov, Wei Yi, Wesley So, Yu Yangyi Karjakin and Firouzja.

The Clutch Chess Champions Showdown International takes place Saturday, June 6 - Sunday, June 14, 2020 for a prize fund of $265, 000. This online event is double the size of the original event with just players from the USA last week. Players: Magnus Carlsen, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Leinier Dominguez, Alexander Grischuk, Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Jeffery Xiong.

The format created by Maurice Ashley awards the normal points in a 12 game match (time control 10 minutes plus 5 seconds a move) but doubles these for games 5 and 6 at the end of day 1 and trebles them for the final games 11 and 12.

The Battle of the Gladiators seems to be connected with a Ukrainian streaming channel. Matches are taking place over a couple of weeks so far with very strong players: Ponomariov, Eljanov, Korobov, Baklan, Efimenko and Kuzubov. This week there were matches on the 4th June. 15) 4NCL Online 2020

The 4NCL Online League takes place Tue 7th Apr to Sat 6th Jun 2020. The league replaces the regular season that has been halted due to the coronavirus. The time control is 45 minutes + 10 seconds a move. Games are played a 7:30pm on a Tuesday on Lichess. There is a 32 team top league - 10 rounds will be played followed by an 8 team knockout final phase to decide the winner. There are 5 divisions of varying strengths - who knows - I may turn up playing in one of the lower sections. Anti-cheating measures are in place. I've added division two games to the updates.
