My thanks to Olexandr Prohorov, Holger Lieske, Etienne VanLeeuwen, Robert Baskin, Sava Christiansen, David Navara, Christophe Bouton, Peter Doggers, Heinz Herzog, Gerard Demuydt, Mikhail Golubev and everyone else who helped both with this issue.
The Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge is well under way with the Quarterfinals. Magnus Carlsen is there, Hikarua Nakamura is there and so is Ding Liren, players such as Daniil Dubov have impressed, although I'm still missing the long time control tournaments these elite rapids are certainly a decent replacement and also making their case for a longer term future. Elsewhere the IM not a GM final saw Chessable's John Bartholomew beat Alina Kashlinskaya 11.5-8.5. This has been a very worthwhile event and I'm sure we'll see something similar again. As mentioned in the text I wrote a program to help me process the chess.com events and nicknames, it looks good to me but if something has gone drastically wrong don't hesitate tto let me know.
Hope you enjoy this issue.
Mark

took place over the weekend of 16th-17th May 2020. Open to all comers, not just French players there were a number of foreign stars including Vasyl Ivanchuk who won the qualifying swiss section with 13/15 a point clear of Christian Bauer. 16 players went through to the knockout phase to decide the prizes. Alireza Firouzja was well beaten by Kacper Piorun in the first round of that phase, Ivanchuk was beaten by the eventual winner Rauf Mamedov in the semi-finals but Mamedov had to come from behind having lost the first game. In the final Mamedov beat Christian Bauer 3-1. A full file of games from both the preliminary and final sections is available. Results and report.

The PNWCC Masters takes place 23rd to 25th May. Hopefully there will be games available afterwards in this strong rapid event. Vitiugov, Xiong, Fedoseev, Guseinov, Melkumyan, Sevian, Oparin, Kuzubov, Bernadskiy etc.
The European Online Chess Championship takes place on chess.com 16th to 31st May. At the moment there are qualifiers for lower rated players.
The Battle of the Gladiators seems to be connected with a Ukrainian streaming channel. Matches are taking place over a couple of weeks so far with very strong players: Ponomariov, Eljanov, Korobov, Baklan, Efimenko and Kuzubov. This week there were matches on the 18th to 22nd May.
The Sweden vs Denmark took place on May 21st 2020. Denmark were the narrow winners.

The 4NCL Online League takes place Tue 7th Apr to Sat 6th Jun 2020. The league replaces the regular season that has been halted due to the coronavirus. The time control is 45 minutes + 10 seconds a move. Games are played a 7:30pm on a Tuesday on Lichess. There is a 32 team top league - 10 rounds will be played followed by an 8 team knockout final phase to decide the winner. There are 5 divisions of varying strengths - who knows - I may turn up playing in one of the lower sections. Anti-cheating measures are in place. I've added division two games to the updates.
Note that most of these events will not take place now. The big news is the online Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Many of the events left in the calendar for the next months will surely be cancelled. Some European events such as the men's and women's championship have been moved towards the end of the year, still no guarantee they will take place. As an amateur player I think it likely I won't play over the board chess again this year.
