1) Introduction

My thanks to Roland Wimmer, Olexandr Prohorov, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Miklos Orso, Gunnar Bjornsson, Mitko Iliev and everyone else who helped with this issue.

Magnus Carlsen took the lead in the World Chess Championship in Sochi. Whilst it's early days the early exchanges clearly have favoured Carlsen in both games. I have detailed coverage on the TWIC main pages. This is a rather quick issue as I have a bit of a chill. Hopefully not going to get worse as it's a busy time.

TWIC turned 20 on September 17th. You can read my article 20 years of TWIC. which includes a full listing of all issues including all the texts. I have all the PGNs but that's a very large file but a ChessBase cbv archive format can be bought for £30 which will help me head out from this landmark. The cost of TWIC is basically my wage so any support would be very welcome as it's very tough surviving on pure advertising, although that has been essential too and I thank them too.

2) World Chess Championship 2014

The World Chess Championships takes place in Sochi with the first round on Saturday 8th November 2014. Viswanathan Anand tries to get his title back from Magnus Carlsen. After the first two rounds Magnus Carlsen leads 1.5-0.5. Detailed reports on TWIC.

4) World Seniors 2014

The World Senior Championships for over 50, over 65 and women took place in Katerini, Greece 24th October to 4th November 2014. Leading players: Nunn, Hebden, Sturua, Sveshnikov, Bischoff, Movsziszian etc.

Zurab Sturua won the under-50 title on tie-break from Keith Arkell after both score 8.5/11 and were waiting a long time for another result which decisively changed their comparative tie-break. John Nunn took Bronze. Anatoly Vaisser won the over 65 title.
