1) Introduction

My thanks to Roland Wimmer, Olexandr Prohorov, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Klaus-Juergen Herlan and everyone else who helped with this issue.

The early stages of the Tata Steel tournament in Wijk aan Zee have sees Sergey Karjakin race to an early lead on 2.5/3. Magnus Carlsen is in a group of players on 2 points including Pentala Harikrishna and Viswanathan Anand who finished things nicely against Fabiano Caruana after the latter blundered in time trouble. This next week should tell us a lot about who is going to win the event. Should be exciting.

The Chinese league was a marathon event over 22 rounds. Rounds: Beijing 28th Apr - May 1st, Taizhou 27th-29th June, Shanghai 11th-13th July (turned out to be Tianjin), Shenzhen 14th-17th Sept, Hangzhou 6th-9th October and finally Danzhou 21st-24th Dec 2012.
