1) Introduction

My thanks to Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Luis Blasco de la Cruz, Adolivio Capece, Dave Clayton, Kopylov Michael, Holger Lieske, Paulo Rocha, Niklas Sidmar, Andras Bernei, Daniel Bertaccini, Nigel Freeman, Raimundo Garcia, George Mirijanian and everyone else who helped with the issue.

Another hugely wearying week of work trying to get an automated system to stay on top of all the chess. The format and colours of this issue are definitely temporary until I get a chance to work on it some more but you will see an attempt to be more systematic in the way I keep track of events and record the information. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Also any problems with the PGN. The huge number of team events took most of the time but I should be pretty quick in keeping on top of them as they progress as I have compiled full team lists.

I can't pretend I looked at much of the Tal Memorial but did see some fine chess from Mamaedyarov who had the lead going into the final round. Sadly he didn't play all that well against Boris Gelfand and tie-breaks were against him. Apparently (although no-one is 100% sure) Levon Aronian and Sergey Karjakin were level on all tie-breaks and shared first. Other than that I've really had to skate over producing much text for the individual tournaments.

2) Tal Memorial 2010

The Tal Memorial and World Blitz took place 4th-18th November 2010. Players: Kramnik, Grischuk, Karjakin, Aronian, Gelfand, Shirov, Eljanov, Nakamura, Wang Hao and Mamedyarov. The defeat of Mamedyarov cost him first place and indeed relegated him to 3rd place on tie-break. He lost to out of form Boris Gelfand, a shame as up until then he'd played a fine tournament. Levon Aronian and Sergey Karjakin also finished on 5.5/9 but had superior tie-breaks and shared first.

George Mirijanian reports: The 17th annual Eastern Chess Congress took place November 12-14, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Select in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. GMs Alexander Stripunsky of New Jersey and Michael Rohde of New York tied for 1st-2nd place with scores of 4.5-0.5, including a draw with one another in the final round. Tying for third place with 4-1 tallies were IMs Robert Hungaski of Connecticut and Justin Sarkar of New York, as well as national master Matthew Herman of New York. The Continental Chess Association-sponsored tournament drew 135 players in six sections and was directed by Robert Messenger of New Hampshire, assisted by Harold Stenzel of New York.
