1) Introduction

My thanks to Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Harald Grafenhofer, Steve Giddins, Jakub Fuksik, Adolivio Capece, Mihajlo Savic, Dave Clayton, Christoph Pfrommer and everyone else who helped with the issue.

The World Team Championships has proved to be fantastic entertainment so far. Greece has defeated both Russia and Armenia, Hikaru Nakamura has played some tremendous games including a very entertaining victory over Boris Gelfand. There have been plenty of other games of interest aswell. Friday sees the opening ceremony of the Corus tournament in Wijk aan Zee. Magnus Carlsen is the top seed ahead of World Champion Viswanathan Anand, Vladimir Kramnik, Vassily Ivanchuk and more in a great field. Some great stuff to look forward to.

Hope you enjoy this issue.

Mark

2) World Team Championship

The World Team Championship takes place Bursa, Turkey 3rd-14th January 2010. The USA lead Russia by a point going into the final two rounds. The gold medal seems to be between these two teams. The USA face Armenia and Azerbaijan in the final two rounds whilst Russia face Egypt and Israel. The event is odd in it's composition but every team has won a match and things have been pretty competitive and I think worthwhile even for nations that you would have thought over-faced. A good experience all-round.

Teams: Russia, Brazil, Egypt, India, Armenia, Israel, USA, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Greece.
