1) Introduction

My thanks to Goran Tomic, F. Gasanov, Miklos Orso, Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh, Leonid Galperin, SS Quah, Andrea Malfagia, Greg Shahade, Arvind Aaron, Urcan Olimpiu, Frank Palm, George Mirijanian and everyone else who helped with the issue.

The FIDE World Championship is rapidly heading to an early conclusion. Vesselin Topalov leads by two points with four rounds to go. Topalov started with an amazing 6.5/7. He has drawn the last three rounds bu t no-one has approached his score and Viswanathan Anand is 2.5 points behind and surely out of it. Peter Svidler is surely the only player who can conceivably catch Topalov but even that looks an outside bet. They meet in round 12.

Hope you enjoy this issue.

Mark
